D.C. rally boldly blasts Obama as 'fraud'

Eligibility attorney Berg motivates crowd to ask, 'Where's birth certificate?'

A rally today at the U.S. Capitol pulled no punches in declaring President Barack Obama an "imposter" and "fraud" who should resign before a constitutional crisis of his own making rips apart the nation. The rally was called by Philip Berg, a Pennsylvania attorney who runs theObamaCrimes.com website and was the first to sue over allegations Obama is constitutionally ineligible to occupy the Oval Office.
"The main thrust of the rally," Berg told WND, "was to get out the continuing message that Obama is a phony, a fraud, an imposter, and [his eligibility to serve as president] is the biggest hoax committed against the U.S. in 234 years."
Berg believes there is enough evidence, both hard and circumstantial, to justify an investigation into whether or not Obama is a "natural-born citizen" as required by the Constitution to serve as president. Berg is looking for a court with "the guts" to demand Obama provide proof of his eligibility.
Berg told WND that though the crowd, which he estimated at a couple of hundred, was smaller than anticipated, he still considered the event a success – in part, because of what he hopes it will inspire.
"The feedback we received was that the attendees are going to go back and spread the word," he said. "Groups of six or so are planning to get together at intersections with signs that read, 'Where's the birth certificate?' At rush hour, those six people can get the message out to thousands."

"I think it was successful to that degree," he continued. "It was a step in the right direction."

Berg told WND he isn't pushing for Obama's resignation out of some right-wing venom – he's a life-long Democrat – or racism or hatred, but out of dedication to preserving the U.S. Constitution and out of concern about what will happen to the country if Obama continues his presidency and is discovered ineligible years down the road.

"My goal is to have a peaceful revolution before something worse breaks out," Berg said. "The sooner the better."
He continued, "Obama is walking all over the Constitution, destroying the Constitution through holding office while ineligible, through a health-care plan that is clearly unconstitutional, and he has plans for more unconstitutional actions. I'm doing this because nothing is more important to the U.S. than its Constitution."
Berg's initial emergency appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court when Obama first took office, like those of a number of other attorneys, were not accepted by the panel. He has one case pending, and it is being prepared for presentation to the high court now.
It alleges that, based on Obama's status as a student in Indonesia and the complete absence of documentation that he ever returned to the U.S. as a citizen, it is unlikely he is a "natural born citizen" as the Constitution requires of the president. Obama was registered in school as an Indonesian Muslim by his stepfather, Lolo Soetoro.
Berg's case alleges further that without documentation that Obama preserved or regained his U.S. citizenship after be registered as an Indonesian as a student at school, he may not even be a "naturalized" citizen.
"Therefore, his term as a U.S. senator was a fraud. His salary and benefits should be returned to the U.S.," he told WND.
He says that if it weren't for the U.S. media, Obama would already have been exposed and removed from office.
"The media gave him a free ride," he said.

"I'm hoping we can bring to the attention to the national media and the Congress the seriousness of this. The positive result I would like to see is that if the national media would cover this and Congress would pay attention, we could force Obama out of office," Berg said.
He said those who come to the rally are being asked to bring a copy of their own birth certificates. He described the assembly as a "Yes, We Can" event to empower the people to once again make determinations about their nation's future.
The problems with the issues Obama has addressed and the campaigns he's launched are important, Berg said.
"However, the most important issue is Obama not being 'constitutionally eligible' to be president," he said.
Berg's is not the only one who has challenged Obama's residency in the White House.A case is developing involving Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, who has questioned the legitimacy of the orders in the U.S. military under a president whose eligibility is under question.
Another case being handled by California attorneys Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation and Orly Taitz is on behalf of another presidential candidate and challenges Obama's inclusion on the ballot.
Yet another claims Congress failed to perform its constitutional obligations to investigate Obama.
There's even been a series of discussions about impeachment.

Presidential entourage books all 570 rooms in 5-star Taj Mahal Hotel

Barack and Michelle's Mumbai darshan plans

US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle will be extremely busy in Mumbai, upon landing on November 6 for a two day India visit. As the world’s most powerful man and his wife zip around the city visiting the 26/11 memorial on Marine Drive, the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mani Bhawan and other locations in south Mumbai, the security obviously will be water-tight .

Adding to the Obamas’ busy schedule is Michelle’s likely visit to Kamathipura, where she will meet commercial sex workers on the invitation of an NGO. The highprofile visit is likely to inconvenience the citizens, as there could be a complete clampdown on traffic on some main roads of south Mumbai and sanitisation of buildings flanking them.
The Obamas will stay at the Taj Mahal Hotel, and his itinerary practically means Marine Drive will be shut for vehicular traffic on the day of the President’s visit, while buildings flanking it will be sanitised with security personnel manning them until Obama has left the place. Same would be the case with Obama’s visit to Mani Bhawan and Michelle going to Kamathipura.

An officer with the security establishment said, “Several other arterial roads in south Mumbai will also see restricted traffic movement, with tight security all around. The Obamas are not expected to schedule any engagements in the night due to security reasons.”

Since Obama is expected to arrive in the afternoon on November 6, and will travel by road to the Taj Mahal Hotel, the entire stretch from airport to the hotel will be under heavy security. The officer said, “There will be no vehicular movement on Western Express Highway at that time. Traffic on roads leading up to the highway will also be stopped. All buildings flanking the entire stretch will be sanitised. However, there is no threat from the snipers as the President will travel in a bullet-proof car with 4.5-inch thick sheets, which are impenetrable for any gun.”
Obama’s personal security staff itself will be huge, and it has already started making its own arrangements in Mumbai. “A team of secret service agents has already arrived, and has surveyed the areas of his stay and the roads and places on his itinerary,” the officer said.

To ensure fool-proof security, the President’s team has booked the entire the Taj Mahal Hotel, including 570 rooms, all banquets and restaurants. Since his security contingent and staff will comprise a huge number, 125 rooms at Taj President have also been booked, apart from 80 to 90 rooms each in Grand Hyatt and The Oberoi hotels. The NCPA, where the President is expected to meet representatives from the business community, has also been entirely booked.
The officer said, “Obama’s contingent is huge. There are two jumbo jets coming along with Air Force One, which will be flanked by security jets. There will be 30 to 40 secret service agents, who will arrive before him. The President’s convoy has 45 cars, including the Lincoln Continental in which the President travels.”

Since Obama will stay in a hotel that is on sea front, elaborate coastal security arrangements have been made by the US Navy in consonance with the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard. “There will be US naval ships, along with Indian vessels , patrolling the sea till about 330-km from the shore. This is to negate the possibility of a missile being fired from a distance,” the officer said.

The President will be accompanied by his chefs, not because he would not like to savour Indian cuisine, but to ensure his food is not spiked.

US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are scheduled to land in Mumbai on November 6.

Body scanners unveiled at JFK Airport; Homeland Security Sect. Janet Napolitano doesn't volunteer

      Egan-Chin/News
The first Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) scanner at JFK airport is shown
by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano (r.) Friday.
Friday, October 22nd 2010, 6:07 PM
Airline passengers might want to consider a trip to the gym before heading to the airport now that high-tech body scanners have been unveiled at Kennedy Airport.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano yesterday hailed them as an important breakthrough for airport security and the fight against terrorism.
Yet when it came to testing the devices - which produce chalky, naked X-ray images of passengers - she turned the floor over to some brave volunteers.
"These machines represent an important way to stay ahead of the ever-evolving threat that faces the aviation industry," Napolitano said.
About 300 of the Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) machines are operational already at 62 airports across the country, and 450 will be in place by the end of the year, officials said.
JFK will have a "substantial" number, but officials would not reveal the exact figure.
Machines will be installed at Newark and LaGuardia airports within weeks.
The machines work by projecting low-level X-ray beams at the passenger's body to produce an image.
Any nonmetal objects hidden on the passenger's body that wouldn't be detected by the old-style scanners are easily spotted.
Going through one is optional for all travelers, but Napolitano hoped to ease any fears that airport staff would use them to leer at passengers.
"Those who read the images are not actually physically at the gate, so they cannot associate an image with an individual person at all," she said.
"And the machines are set so that no image is retained."

7 banks closed in Fla., Ga., Ill., Kan., Ariz.

Regulators close 7 banks in Fla., Ga., Ill., Kan., Ariz.; 139 US bank failures this year

On Saturday 23 October 2010, 9:48 SGT
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Regulators on Friday shut down a total of seven banks in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas and Arizona, lifting to 139 the number of U.S. banks that have fallen this year as soured loans have mounted and the economy has sputtered.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. took over the banks, the largest of which by far was Hillcrest Bank, based in Overland Park, Kan., with $1.6 billion in assets.
A newly chartered bank subsidiary of Boston-based NBH Holdings Corp. was set up to take over Hillcrest's assets and deposits. The new subsidiary is called Hillcrest Bank N.A.
The FDIC and Hillcrest Bank N.A. agreed to share losses on $1.1 billion of the failed bank's assets. Its failure is expected to cost the deposit insurance fund $329.7 million.
Also shuttered were First Bank of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla., with $81 million in assets; Progress Bank of Florida, based in Tampa, with $110.7 million in assets; First National Bank of Barnesville in Barnesville, Ga., with $131.4 million in assets; Gordon Bank of Gordon, Ga., with $29.4 million in assets; First Suburban National Bank in Maywood, Ill., with $148.7 million in assets; and First Arizona Savings, based in Scottsdale, Ariz., with assets of $272.2 million.
Ameris Bank, based in Moultrie, Ga., agreed to assume the assets and deposits of First Bank of Jacksonville. Bay Cities Bank, based in Tampa, is buying the assets and deposits of Progress Bank.
United Bank, based in Zebulon, Ga., is assuming the assets and deposits of First National Bank of Barnesville, while Morris Bank of Dublin, Ga., is assuming the deposits and $11.5 million of the assets of Gordon Bank. The FDIC will retain the rest for eventual sale.
Seaway Bank and Trust Co., based in Chicago, is assuming the assets and deposits of First Suburban National Bank.
The FDIC was unable to find a buyer for First Arizona Savings, and it approved the payout of the bank's insured deposits. The agency said it will mail checks to depositors for their insured funds on Monday.
In addition, the FDIC and Ameris Bank agreed to share losses on $60 million of First Bank of Jacksonville's loans and other assets. The FDIC and Bay Cities Bank are sharing losses on $82.6 million of Progress Bank of Florida's assets, while the agency and United Bank are sharing losses on $107.3 million of First National Bank of Barnesville's assets.
The FDIC and Seaway Bank and Trust are sharing losses on $116.6 million of First Suburban National Bank's assets.
The failure of First Bank of Jacksonville is expected to cost the deposit insurance fund $16.2 million; the failure of Progress Bank of Florida is expected to cost $25 million; that of First National Bank of Barnesville, $33.9 million; that of Gordon Bank, $9 million; First Suburban National Bank, $31.4 million; and First Arizona Savings, $32.8 million.
Florida, Georgia and Illinois are among the states hardest hit by bank collapses, stemming from the meltdown in the real estate market that brought an avalanche of soured mortgage loans. The shutdowns Friday brought the number of bank failures in Florida this year to 27, and to 16 each for Georgia and Illinois.
With 139 closures nationwide so far this year, the pace of bank failures exceeds that of 2009, which was already a brisk year for shutdowns with a total of 140. By this time last year, regulators had closed 106 banks.
The pace has accelerated as banks' losses mount on loans made for commercial property and development. Many companies have shut down in the recession, vacating shopping malls and office buildings financed by the loans. That has brought delinquent loan payments and defaults by commercial developers.
The 2009 total of bank failures was the highest annual tally since 1992, at the height of the savings and loan crisis. The 2009 failures cost the insurance fund more than $30 billion. Twenty-five banks failed in 2008, the year the financial crisis struck with force; only three succumbed in 2007.
The growing bank failures have sapped billions of dollars out of the deposit insurance fund. It fell into the red last year, and its deficit stood at $15.2 billion as of June 30.
The number of banks on the FDIC's confidential "problem" list jumped to 829 in the second quarter from 775 three months earlier, even as the industry as a whole had its best quarter since 2007, making $21.6 billion in net income. Banks with more than $10 billion in assets -- only 1.3 percent of the industry -- accounted for $19.9 billion of the total earnings.
The FDIC expects the cost of resolving failed banks to total around $52 billion from 2010 through 2014.
Depositors' money -- insured up to $250,000 per account -- is not at risk, with the FDIC backed by the government. That insurance cap was made permanent in the financial overhaul law enacted in July.

Please think before you vote. It's so very important. God Bless America !!!

In a country, headed toward socialism, where the elitist few ran the government and did not govern for the people, but against them...

In a climate of arrogant words, never before seen flippant attitudes, photo ops, fake news stories, and continued out of control rhetoric...

In a time of rising debt, broken promises, increased taxes, out of control government spending, corporate takeovers and corrupt special interests ...

In a world where evil nations are developing nuclear weapons and where Obama pairs down the United State's arsenal leaving us more and more defenseless....

Now, more than ever, America needs a hero- one who has the power to change the political landscape. That hero, that voice... is You.

Kucinich on WikiLeaks: ‘American people have a right to know’

By Muriel Kane
Friday, October 22nd, 2010 -- 7:57 pm
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) responded to the WikiLeaks release on Friday with a statement saying, "We need a true accounting of the war in Iraq. The American people have a right to know how many innocent civilians were killed in a war based on lies."
"We must remember that the Iraqi people are still grieving over the loss of husbands, wives, sons and daughters who were innocent noncombatants," Kucinich stated. "We have a moral responsibility to acknowledge the massive loss to the people of Iraq and the world. ... The suffering of the Iraqi people is unfathomable."
Kucinich has been a consistent voice speaking out against the war in Iraq and the loss of civilian lives in that nation under both Republican and Democratic administrations. According to his own website, "On October 14, 2005, Rep. Kucinich wrote Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to request a copy of all Pentagon records pertaining to Iraqi civilian casualties. While the Pentagon maintained that it does not keep a list of civilian casualties, there has been abundant evidence to indicate the contrary. Rep. Kucinich still has not received such records."
Last August, Rep. Kucinich challenged the notion that the Obama administration's withdrawal of 50,000 troops constituted an actual end to combat operations.
"Who is in charge of our operations in Iraq now?" he asked. "George Orwell? A war based on lies continues to be a war based on lies. Today, we have a war that is not a war, with combat troops who are not combat troops. ... This is not the end of the war; this is simply a new stage in the campaign to lull the American people into accepting an open-ended presence in Iraq."
Comment:
There is no accountability for anything anymore. I am still surprised Bernie M. went to jail for fraud. As for the rest, this is why it was being kept quiet. Because not only did our NEWLY MINTED TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT want it kept secret for political reasons. But mostly so the war could continue to roll along despite the fact that the majority of Americans from both sides think it sucks.

War is what we do. It is now who we have become. And to be against war is of course, to be un-American and anti the troops. War is a growth industry. And it employs the best minds to invent the most wonderful weapons. The fact that the technology is only for death, and the treasure is only for weapons and not our country, and without the continual chaos of war, what would all those men in the Pentagon do?

War is peace. Or haven't you heard that one? We bring democracy to people that don't want it. And not by example, but at the point of a gun. And with continual war, we are not only poorer in every way, but we have lost our moorings as civilized human beings. But what the hell, we have to be good at something. And since we don't educate, since we do not enlighten the world in anyway, and since we are determined to become the slaves of the rich, we really don't need all the trappings of a civilized society. And the idea of peace, prosperity and all that goes with it, is for suckers in other parts of the world. Not us.

WE will perish for this philosophy and we deserve no less.

Harry Reid Takes Credit For Saving The World

New Harry Reid Comic Relief: Now He Claims He Saved The World

Once he is defeated in the coming mid-term elections, I hope Harry Reid gets a regular TV gig, lets face it the guy is always good for comic relief. Earlier this week there was the campaign ad he created to bash opponent Sharon Angle which also slammed Progressive Democratic Congresswoman Dina Titus.

Then of course there was the interview where Reid was asked the greatest living American but he picked two dead guys. And don't forget he also claimed that President Obama was just like the Chilean miners.

Today's Harry Reid silliness is a scene from the Ed Schultz show. Harry tells Schultz that he personally saved the world from a worldwide depression.
"So people have been hurting," Reid said. "And I understand that. And it doesn't give them comfort or solace for me to tell them, you know, but for me, we'd be in a worldwide depression. They want to know what I have done for them."

guess Oprah was wrong, She said that Barack Obama was "The One." But if Harry Reid personally saved the world from depression, it must be Harry, not the POTUS who is the Messiah. One question though, if he was able to save the world from depression, why couldn't Harry Reid save the State of Nevada from the highest level of unemployment in the country.

Truth is Americans don't believe Reid or Obama saved the world from a depression. Obama's declining popularity in Nevada will hurt Reid more than it helps to motivate the Democratic base. The election will be a referendum on the President's policies, all of which Harry Reid helped to shove through the Senate and down the throats of the American people.

Must Read NY-22 UPDATE Via Kerry Picket:

Congressman Maurice Hinchey, New York Democrat, faced his Republican challenger George Phillips again in Broome County at the Binghamton Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. Both men were joined ,at a candidates' forum, by New York Democratic Congressman Mike Arcuri and his GOP challenger Richard Hanna.

Congressman Hinchey had difficulty explaining his positions on economic policy the last time he debated Mr. Philips. The New York Congressman floundered about on answering a simple question about what his deficit reduction priorities were and seemed doubly confused when asked about where he stood on the return of the impending federal estate tax.

His Republican challenger George Phillips, a former congressional staffer for Rep. Chris Smith, New Jersey Republican, told me on Tuesday, after the debate, he was able to show Mr. Hinchey is “out of touch.”
“It was last week, it’s on our website, he [Hinchey] didn’t realize we had a budget deficit. Today, he was talking about how good things were going in New York State,” said Mr. Phillips. “Manufacturing jobs are down fifty percent since he’s been in office. Small businesses are hurting here. Again, I think we see a case of a Washington politician. He’s way out of touch of what’s going on here.”

Obama Tells Pentagon to Attack "Cyberthreats" On American Soil

Kurt Nimmo

Obama has directed the Pentagon to attack "cyberthreats" within the United States. The teleprompter reading front man for the globalists "has adopted new procedures for using the Defense Department's vast array of cyberwarfare capabilities in case of an attack on vital computer networks inside the United States, delicately navigating historic rules that restrict military action on American soil," reports the New York Times.

Delicately? Obama has trounced the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and particularly Posse Comitatus. Crimes committed within the United States are the business of federal, state, and local police, not the Pentagon.

"In a break with previous policy, the military now is prepared to provide cyber expertise to other government agencies and to certain private companies to counter attacks on their computer networks, the Pentagon's cyber policy chief, Robert Butler, said Oct. 20," reports Defense News. "An agreement signed this month with the Department of Homeland Security and an earlier initiative to protect companies in the defense industrial base make it likely that the military will be a key part of any response to a cyber attack."

Katrina is the model here. "The system would mirror that used when the military is called on in natural disasters like hurricanes or wildfires. A presidential order dispatches the military forces, working under the control of the Federal Emergency Management Agency," reports the Times.

"FEMA is the Patriot Act on crack," writes Sheila Samples, a former civilian U.S. Army Public Information Officer. "Once its powers are unleashed, Oliver North's REX 84 'exercise' will become a reality. The Constitution will be suspended and FEMA will have the right to detain or seize the property of anyone even suspected of engaging in, or who might be thinking of conspiring with others to engage in acts of espionage or sabotage."

FEMA was created outside of Constitutional law by president Kennedy. It is not subject to congressional oversight. It was consistently modified and magnified under Carter, Reagan (especially Reagan), Bush Senior, Clinton, Bush Junior (who moved FEMA under the control of the Department of Homeland Security), and now Obama.

"Genocide fascists like Henry Kissinger, and greedy patriots like former General Richard Secord and Lt. Col. Oliver North, the architects of both the Iran-Contra scandal and today's FEMA, must be laughing their asses off at the juvenile disinformation bait-and-switch scenario playing itself out in the US media," Samples noted as Katrina unfolded.

Under Obama's rules, the New York Times continues, "the president would approve the use of the military's expertise in computer-network warfare, and the Department of Homeland Security would direct the work." Expertise. Breaking things and killing people.

In 2008, a document entitled Information Operation Roadmap surfaced. Penned by the Pentagon, it declares the internet needs to be dealt with as if it were an enemy "weapons system." It suggests a "robust offensive suite of capabilities to include full-range electronic and computer network attack" against perceived enemies. DoD, the document explains, will "fight the net as it would a weapons system" in order to achieve dominance in information warfare.

In short, enemies of the state -- hardly limited to Muslims dwelling in far-flung caves -- will be attacked with the full force of the military.

Not to worry, though. The Pentagon is sensitive to your civil liberties. "Officials involved in drafting the rules said the goal was to ensure a rapid response to a cyberthreat while balancing concerns that civil liberties might be at risk should the military take over such domestic operations."

Sort of like the Pentagon was concerned about the Bill of Rights when it sent National Guard troops and mercenaries house-to-house to steal weapons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina? Sort of like the Pentagon was sensitive to the civil liberties of Americans when it created CIFA, the Counterintelligence Field Activity, and used it to snoop antiwar demonstrations?

Obama, the Pentagon, and the corporate media are exploiting the highly dubious prospect that al-CIA-duh or some other shadowy miscreant will cyber-attack "important targets"¦ on domestic soil, whether within the government or in critical private operations like financial networks or a regional power grid."

As we have noted on numerous occasions, the U.S. power grid is not susceptible to terrorist hackers, never mind the inanities ofSenaor Joe Lieberman and other fear-mongers in the government. "To start, these systems are rarely connected directly to the public internet. And that makes gaining access to grid-controlling networks a challenge for all but the most dedicated, motivated and skilled -- nation-states, in other words," writes Michael Tanji for Wired.

You know, sort of like the Stuxnet computer worm, so sophisticated it was obviously created by a nation-state. "A number of governments with sophisticated computer skills would have the ability to create such a code. They include China, Russia, Israel, Britain, Germany and the United States," the Associated Press reported after Iran said it was the victim of a Stuxnet attack.

Not cave dwellers in Afghanistan or, for that matter, Biloxi. If the U.S. is attacked, as the government tells us ad nauseam it will be, it will be China, Israel, or somebody in the Pentagon. It will not be patsies bundling together barbeque gas canisters or setting their undies on fire.

The Pentagon's newly announced cyberwarfare capabilities in collaboration with the Ministry and that paragon of protecting liberty, the NSA (in the business of snooping Americans for close to 60 years), is not about protecting infrastructure not connected to the public internet. It is about tightening the noose.

"President Obama will be handed the power to shut down the Internet for at least four months without Congressional oversight if the Senate votes for the infamous Internet 'kill switch' bill, which was approved by a key Senate committee yesterday and now moves to the floor," Paul Joseph Watson wrote on June 25. "The Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, which is being pushed hard by Senator Joe Lieberman, would hand absolute power to the federal government to close down networks, and block incoming Internet traffic from certain countries under a declared national emergency."

In the event of some contrived national emergency -- one the government continually warns is right around the corner -- Obama's globalist handlers will want to shut down the internet, not because it would allow hackers to turn off the power grid or attack networks, but because a free and open internet allows people to circumvent government propaganda.

Iraq war logs: secret files show how US ignored torture

Iraq war logs: secret files show how US ignored torture

• Massive leak reveals serial detainee abuse
• 15,000 unknown civilian deaths in war
• Full coverage of the Iraq war logs

A grim picture of the US and Britain's legacy in Iraq has been revealed in a massive leak of American military documents that detail torture, summary executions and war crimes.
Almost 400,000 secret US army field reports have been passed to the Guardian and a number of other international media organisations via the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks.
The electronic archive is believed to emanate from the same dissident US army intelligence analyst who earlier this year is alleged to have leaked a smaller tranche of 90,000 logs chronicling bloody encounters and civilian killings in the Afghan war.
The new logs detail how:
• US authorities failed to investigate hundreds of reports of abuse, torture, rape and even murder by Iraqi police and soldiers whose conduct appears to be systematic and normally unpunished.
• A US helicopter gunship involved in a notorious Baghdad incident had previously killed Iraqi insurgents after they tried to surrender.
• More than 15,000 civilians died in previously unknown incidents. US and UK officials have insisted that no official record of civilian casualties exists but the logs record 66,081 non-combatant deaths out of a total of 109,000 fatalities.
The numerous reports of detainee abuse, often supported by medical evidence, describe prisoners shackled, blindfolded and hung by wrists or ankles, and subjected to whipping, punching, kicking or electric shocks. Six reports end with a detainee's apparent death.
As recently as December the Americans were passed a video apparently showing Iraqi army officers executing a prisoner in Tal Afar, northern Iraq. The log states: "The footage shows approximately 12 Iraqi army soldiers. Ten IA soldiers were talking to one another while two soldiers held the detainee. The detainee had his hands bound … The footage shows the IA soldiers moving the detainee into the street, pushing him to the ground, punching him and shooting him."
The report named at least one perpetrator and was passed to coalition forces. But the logs reveal that the coalition has a formal policy of ignoring such allegations. They record "no investigation is necessary" and simply pass reports to the same Iraqi units implicated in the violence. By contrast all allegations involving coalition forces are subject to formal inquiries. Some cases of alleged abuse by UK and US troops are also detailed in the logs.
In two Iraqi cases postmortems revealed evidence of death by torture. On 27 August 2009 a US medical officer found "bruises and burns as well as visible injuries to the head, arm, torso, legs and neck" on the body of one man claimed by police to have killed himself. On 3 December 2008 another detainee, said by police to have died of "bad kidneys", was found to have "evidence of some type of unknown surgical procedure on [his] abdomen".
A Pentagon spokesman told the New York Times this week that under its procedure, when reports of Iraqi abuse were received the US military"notifies the responsible government of Iraq agency or ministry for investigation and follow-up".
The logs also illustrate the readiness of US forces to unleash lethal force. In one chilling incident they detail how an Apache helicopter gunship gunned down two men in February 2007.
The suspected insurgents had been trying to surrender but a lawyer back at base told the pilots: "You cannot surrender to an aircraft." The Apache, callsign Crazyhorse 18, was the same unit and helicopter based at Camp Taji outside Baghdad that later that year, in July, mistakenly killed two Reuters employees and wounded two children in the streets of Baghdad.
Iraq Body Count, the London-based group that monitors civilian casualties, says it has identified around 15,000 previously unknown civilian deaths from the data contained in the leaked war logs.
Although US generals have claimed their army does not carry out body counts and British ministers still say no official statistics exist, the war logs show these claims are untrue. The field reports purport to identify all civilian and insurgent casualties, as well as numbers of coalition forces wounded and killed in action. They give a total of more than 109,000 violent deaths from all causes between 2004 and the end of 2009.
This includes 66,081 civilians, 23,984 people classed as "enemy" and 15,196 members of the Iraqi security forces. Another 3,771 dead US and allied soldiers complete the body count.
No fewer than 31,780 of these deaths are attributed to improvised roadside bombs (IEDs) planted by insurgents. The other major recorded tally is of 34,814 victims of sectarian killings, recorded as murders in the logs.
However, the US figures appear to be unreliable in respect of civilian deaths caused by their own military activities. For example, in Falluja, the site of two major urban battles in 2004, no civilian deaths are recorded. Yet Iraq Body Count monitors identified more than 1,200 civilians who died during the fighting.
Phil Shiner, human rights specialist at Public Interest Lawyers, plans to use material from the logs in court to try to force the UK to hold a public inquiry into the unlawful killing of Iraqi civilians.
He also plans to sue the British government over its failure to stop the abuse and torture of detainees by Iraqi forces. The coalition's formal policy of not investigating such allegations is "simply not permissible", he says.
Shiner is already pursuing a series of legal actions for former detainees allegedly killed or tortured by British forces in Iraq.
WikiLeaks says it is posting online the entire set of 400,000 Iraq field reports – in defiance of the Pentagon.
The whistleblowing activists say they have deleted all names from the documents that might result in reprisals. They were accused by the US military of possibly having "blood on their hands" over the previous Afghan release by redacting too few names. But the military recently conceded that no harm had been identified.
Condemning this fresh leak, however, the Pentagon said: "This security breach could very well get our troops and those they are fighting with killed. Our enemies will mine this information looking for insights into how we operate, cultivate sources and react in combat situations, even the capability of our equipment."
