Why is News Corp. making secret political donations to GOP-aligned groups?

News Corp. donations to 'pro-business' groups top $4.4 Million in 2010

Sources close to News. Corp told AllYourTV.com on Thursday that the company has contributed at least $4.4 million to conservative and pro-business groups in 2010.
The parent company of Fox News had previously admitted to making $1 million contributions to the Republican Governors Association and the U.S. Chamber Of Commerce.
But according to a News Corp employee with direct knowledge of the donations, at least another $2.4 million has been contributed to other GOP-aligned groups. Most of the contributions are described as being in the "mid six-figure range" and have been made primarily to organizations who do not have to disclose their funding, thanks to the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling.
The source declined to give a specific breakdown of the contributions, but said that the money was given in an effort to stimulate a "pro-business environment" in Washington.
Spokesmen for News Corp. have so far failed to respond to requests for more information on the donations.
A second source close to the company confirmed the donations late Thursday, but was unable to confirm the specific amounts or recipients.

Why is News Corp. making secret political donations to GOP-aligned groups?

Earlier, we noted Rupert Murdoch's lame explanation for News Corp.'s recent donations to the Republican Governor's Association and GOP-aligned Chamber of Commerce. In short, Murdoch laughably claimed that the donation to the RGA "had nothing to do with Fox News" because he only gave the money due to his friendship with John Kasich, the former Fox News host that is currently the Republican nominee for Ohio Governor.
Discussing Fox's million dollar donation to Chamber of Commerce, Murdoch told Politico's Keach Hagey that News Corp. "didn't expect" the donation to become public. This raises the question: why is News Corp., which owns the largest cable news organization in the country, making secret political donations to GOP-aligned groups? And based on Fox's non-stop boosterism of the GOP, it's worth asking: has News Corp. made any other donations to GOP-aligned groups that they didn't "expect" will become public?
